Christmas Presents For 5 Year Old Girls - Gift Ideas For That Special Little Girl In Your Life

,
LEARNING WITH ANIMATION:

Are you on the hunt for Christmas gifts already? What, it's too early to get your gifts...think again. It pays to shop now to take the stress out of the Christmas period. It also means things could be cheaper and easier to get. Christmas is a time notorious for running out of hot toys and consequently prices get inflated out of proportion for the must have toy or toys of the year. If you are looking for Christmas presents for 5 year old girls or girls around that age here are a few ideas to get you going.

Calico critters have been a popular toy for girls around 5 years of age for a few years now. You might have heard of them as Sylvanian families. Well they have been re-branded as Calico Critters. Don't ask me why this has been done but they still look as cute as ever and tend to melt the hearts of little girls.

Calico Critters are 6 inch toy figurines of a whole range of woodland animals. They almost look like Beatrix Potter type characters - you know - Rabbits, Badgers, Door mice and various creatures like that.

They all have families, so there will be a father and mother Rabbit and various sibling bunnies of various ages. Girls love this family aspect of the toy because it gives them an outlet to express their nurturing side. And the toys are ever so cute.

You can also get all sorts of accessories to make the critters even more adorable. The townhouse or townhome (as they like to call it in Cloverleaf Corners) is predicted to be a popular seller this year. It is a complete home for one or more Calico critters families. And the details of the house are exquisite.

The V Reader Animated E book system is a toy that girls learning to read will really cherish. The V Reader is made by Vtech that specialize in educational toys. It makes reading and spelling and learning new words more interesting and fun.

Basically you put in a cartridge and the story starts. A narrator tells the story and the animated screen changes as the story goes along. Under the animation, the words that are being used are displayed and each word is highlighted when it is spoken by the narrator.

Children can stop and have the word repeated. They can even highlight the word to get more information, like a definition on the word. There are also various word and spelling games that can be played with the V Reader. Girls love to read and this will be a constant companion as they develop the skills to start reading proper books.

Cartoon Dinosaurs

,
LEARNING WITH ANIMATION:

If you need to keep a child amused, introducing them to a cartoon dinosaur may be an option. There are many famous cartoon dinosaurs, including Barney and Friends as well as dinosaurs from the television show, The Flintstones. However, if you do not have access to a television, you can still amuse your children by teaching them how to draw a cartoon dinosaur, or give them a coloring book featuring cartoon dinosaurs.

When teaching a child how to draw a dinosaur, patience is key. At first, they may get frustrated or have a hard time understanding how to make the shapes that will form their own dinosaur. However, once you teach them the skill to draw the cartoon dinosaur, children will often keep themselves amused drawing and coloring for several hours.

Several ways that you can teach a child to draw a dinosaur is to use tracing paper and let them trace the shapes of the dinosaurs. This will help them learn the basic shapes. If tracing is going well, you can teach them how to draw by using big circles to make the shape of the dinosaur. This works well for slightly older children, as they will be able to understand how to connect their circles to make the shape of the dinosaur. If your child is not grasping the concept of drawing the shapes of dinosaurs in circles, give them references to draw from. Drawing a dinosaur is a lot easier if your child can view another dinosaur as they learn.

It is really important that as you teach your children to draw a cartoon dinosaur that you encourage them and compliment them. Children need to feel as though they are accomplishing something to have their attention remain on what they are working on. If a child receives praise for their attempts a drawing a dinosaur, they will be more inclined to continue trying to draw, which keeps them quiet for longer. You can also buy them dinosaurs toys and they can draw them.

If you want to keep them quiet without teaching them how to draw a cartoon dinosaur, you can download and print a wide variety of coloring books and story books on dinosaurs. Both of these types of books can keep your child amused while also teaching them about dinosaurs. These types of books can often be found in book stores and magazine shops. These dinosaurs may also be featured in children's magazines.

Sir Isaac Newton for Kids

,
LEARNING WITH ANIMATION:

Sir Isaac Newton (1642 - 1727) was an English scientist who made great contributions to physics, optics, math and astronomy. Among elementary and middle-school students, he is best known for his Three Laws of Motions and the Universal Law of Gravitation. Have you heard the story about an apple dropping on Newton's head? Learn more at the following sites.

NASA: Newton's Three Laws of Motion

"The motion of an aircraft through the air can be explained and described by physical principals discovered over 300 years ago by Sir Isaac Newton." This illustrated, hyperlinked lesson created by NASA introduces Newton's Laws of Motion and how they apply to aviation. The grade-level buttons (labeled 6-8, 9-12, and 11-12) link to related worksheets, activities, and quizzes. Stay on the Newton Guided Tour by navigating with the Next and Previous buttons, or jump to a new section by visiting the colored buttons (such as Kite Index or Model Rocket Index.)

The Physics Classroom: Newton's Laws of Motion

The Physics Classroom is an illustrated, animated tutorial for high-school students written by high-school science teacher Tom Henderson. These four lessons explain Newton's Laws of Motion with multimedia demonstrations and quizzes. My favorite clicks are the interactive activities listed in the Shockwave Physics Studio and the animations found in Multimedia.

PBS: Newton's Dark Secrets

"He was the greatest scientist of his day, perhaps of all time. But while Isaac Newton was busy discovering the universal law of gravitation, he was also searching out hidden meanings in the Bible and pursuing the covert art of alchemy. In this program, NOVA explores the strange and complex mind of Isaac Newton." Although few classrooms probably explore this side of Newton's fascinating character, I include it for variety. Best clicks are His Legacy, and Einstein on Newton.

For more on Isaac Newton and links to the sites reviewed here, visit Isaac Newton at "Surfing the Net with Kids".

The Game: Jake And The Neverland Pirates

,
LEARNING WITH ANIMATION:

A brilliant concept for the toddlers just out of their diapers, a part game and part merchandising concept for the very successful Peter Pan franchise, Jake and the Neverland Pirates games are a wonderful play and learn games and cartoons punched together. The story revolves around a pocket sized pirate, Jake and his friends Izzy and Cubby who always are at loggerheads with captain Hook the main anti protagonist.

Captain Hook has a feared nemesis in Tick-Tock the crocodile who has been taken from the Peter Pan franchise. Every episode begins with Jake and his friends engaged in a fun activity like playing or enjoying a party or having fun with something that has washed up on the pirate island. Captain Hook who always keeps a watch over these little kids thinks that this is a great little thing and he must have it and steals it from them. The whole point of the adventures that follows such stealing is to get back the stolen article. Once Jake and his friends successfully retrieve the article they get "gold doubloons". The cartoons do not only have entrainment filled half an hour, but it encapsulates learning, engagement for the kids in terms of participation like "Did you the island?"

Several prominent stars have dubbed for the voices of these cartoon characters. For example David Arquette voicing for Skully the small green bird which keeps a watch on Captain Hook and for any trouble that Jake and his friends might have. Colin Ford voices for Jake the pocket sized pirate who is the leader of our pack. Cubby has been voiced by Jonathan Morgan Heit. Cubby is the smallest of the pack and he is the one who has the map of Neverland.

The whole pack is full of slapstick elements but they are evidently targeted at the kids so they are light, but the details are very sharp and very colorful. Every minute element on the cartoon is done with a lot of attention which reflects in the final package. The whole program of 30 minutes has two 11 minute adventure and followed by a live song performance from the Neverland Pirate Band which features many of the leading protagonists in the live performance. Loren Hoskins and Kevin Hendrickson gives the performance in the real world who are played by the animated characters Sharky and Bones who are also taken from the Peter Pan franchise.

5 Things to Consider When You Start a Vegetable Garden

,
LEARNING WITH ANIMATION:

If you have never grown vegetables before you will soon discover that the work is labour intensive, but also very rewarding. Certainly when you start to learn about how to vegetable garden there is no real difference between this and growing herbs or flowers.

Although if you want to achieve the right results you still need to do it properly and planning is key. In fact when it comes to growing your own vegetables you need to start planning everything even before you start to prepare the soil. There are certain factors that one needs to take into consideration and below we look at what some of these are.

1. Local Climate

You need to be aware that different vegetables prefer a different type of climate in which to grow. For example green leafed vegetables such cabbage and brussels sprouts grow better where it is cooler whilst tomatoes, aubergines (egg plants) prefer the climate to warm and sunny.

2. Garden Location

Another thing you need to think about is the position where the vegetable garden is going to be located. Ideally it needs to be somewhere that gets sufficient amounts of sunlight each day but where the soil is good and water can drain away from it easily. Plus consider putting some sort of protective fencing around the area in order to prevent animals such as rabbits or dogs from getting access and damaging the vegetables you are growing.

3. Garden Equipment

It is important that you make sure that you keep all the equipment you need within easy reach of where your vegetable garden is located. Remember gardening is hard work and you don't want to have to spend too much time having to move away to get the implements you need to work on yours.

4. Plant Size

After deciding on where your vegetable garden is to be sited you next need to decide what sorts of plants you are going to grow. Again the size of your garden will determine what it is you grow. If you only have a small amount of space for your vegetable garden then choose vegetables which don't require too much space to grow. Plus the taller sorts of plants such as runner beans, sweet corn etc., can be placed at the rear whilst smaller ones at the front. This also ensures that all plants are getting enough sunlight each day to help them grow.

5. Year Round Planting

If you want to ensure that you have fresh vegetables all year round then you need to ensure that you plant those which grow during specific times of the year. If you are unsure what vegetables grow best throughout the year there are plenty of books along with websites that can offer advice on this subject.

Above we have taken a look at some of the important things to take into consideration before you start growing your own vegetables. If like many others you are just learning how to vegetable garden there are plenty of books and websites that can offer you information and help to get the best results possible. However, don't expect to see results straightaway it could take several months before the soil in which you grow your vegetables is of a quality to produce some truly great tasting plants for you to enjoy.

Joyce Oroz, Author Of Secure The Ranch: An Interview

,
LEARNING WITH ANIMATION:

I've had people tell me they are between books, looking for something new to read; a new author, a new genre. There are more writers than ever before: More good writers, more not so good writers. The choices of things to read are enormous. The purpose of interviewing a writer is to give you, the reader, a chance to hear from the writer directly, to hear the writer's own voice.

Joyce Oroz writes about the things she loves; painting, animals, California, relationships, mystery and adventure. Her ambition is to entertain, speed up the heartbeat, raise the hair on the back of your neck and make you laugh.

What's the title and genre of you book?

Secure the Ranch is a contemporary murder mystery. It is a fast-paced suspenseful adventure with laughs at every turn. I try to create interesting characters and relationships that grow and change. I write about people from a wide range of cultures and generations.

Who is the audience for this book?

Secure the Ranch is an adventure mystery that appeals to adult men and women. Women between the ages of forty and seventy identify with my fifty-year-old protagonist, Josephine who paints murals for a living and ferrets out bad guys on the side. She is a slightly flawed, but very sincere widow who finds herself in deep trouble.

Is this book part of a series?

Secure the Ranch is my first novel in the Josephine Stuart Mystery Series. It is a "Nancy Drew" type mystery with double the adventure, suspense and fun. My second book in the series is "Read My Lipstick". The third book, "Shaking in Her Flip Flops".

Describe your protagonist (hero), physically and emotionally and describe the challenges the protagonist needs to overcome and the motivation for overcoming them.

Josephine Stuart is a fifty-year-old widow. She has her own mural-painting business with two regular employees, Alicia Quintana and Kyle Larson. She also has a handsome neighbor, David Galaz, who seems to have his eye on her. She is a self-made woman who takes pride in her ability to paint for a living. Unfortunately, the mural business has been slow. Because of her financial situation, she jumps into a painting contract at the Munger Mansion atop a lonely mountain near the town of Boulder Creek. Even when strange and terrible things happen, she feels she must finish the job.

Quote a passage from your book that you love.

..I helped him to the ground, noticing his whole backside was crimson. I stifled a cry with my hand. Tears welled up as I embraced the best friend a person could have. Down close, hugging him, he smelled like strawberries.

Once I realized Solow was wearing strawberries and a few other food groups, I relaxed considerably. He had polished off a pound of ground round, a pint of cookies and cream ice cream and a dozen raw eggs. He had been literally rolling in groceries under the dash. Every dog's dream.....

Elaborate on the meaning of the passage.

There is nothing really profound in this excerpt, but I think it's a good visual, and Solow is an important character in the story. Actually, he has an active role in all my stories.

What is your philosophy or writing?

I am a mural artist turned writer. When my (mature) body could no longer stand up to the hard physical work of painting murals, I searched for another creative outlet. One night a vivid dream laid out a simple but complete children's story. I quickly wrote everything down word-for-word and then spent a year illustrating it. I discovered it was the writing I enjoyed, more than the painting. After writing twenty-seven children's stories, I decided it was time to write a real book. I finished Secure the Ranch and was hooked. I write because I love to write, and I love to share the fun with my friends.

What surprising things did you learn while writing this book?

The first surprise was the realization that I love to write-even more than I loved to paint. I was surprised by the fact that my characters introduce themselves and lead me to places I never expected to go. I was surprised that I could stick with a six-day writing schedule for nine months, and I was blown away when the story came full circle on page 343. More surprising than that is the fact that my next book took nine months and ended on page 343!

How has your upbringing influenced you writing?

I think I am eager to try new things because my parents never warned me that I might fail. My folks are hardworking and very creative. Guess some of it rubbed off on me. I was close to, and greatly influenced by my grandparents and several uncles who wrote philosophical and religious books I never read.

For the Testimony of Jesus

,
LEARNING WITH ANIMATION:

In the very heart of the new covenant is the testimony of Jesus. (Rev. 19:10 NLT):

"Then I fell down at his feet (i.e. the angel) to worship him, but he said, 'No, don't worship me. For I am a servant of God, just like you and other brothers and sisters who testify of their faith in Jesus. Worship God. For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus.'"

The great binding connection between Jesus and his new covenant is the key to learning the truth, and the essence of all of prophecy. The new covenant is God's golden key that unlocks God's rich treasure house of blessings for believers. When we move forward to enter his house all confusion and conundrums disappear. If He is all that matters to you (Col. 3:11), and not these other earthly kingdoms that lead away from him, then you have already gained much wisdom (I Co. 2:7; Eph.1:17; Col. 1:9, 2:3, 3:16).

The holy Scriptures specifically give "the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus" (II Ti. 3:15). We live by this faith in Christ, "not by sight" (II Co. 5:7. See also Heb. 11:8-18; Ro. 3:24-31; II Pet. 1:1).

"In him lie all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge" (Col. 2:3). He opened up the new, life-giving way "through the sacred curtain, by means of his death for us" (Heb. 10:20). This wondrous sacrifice stands for all time (v. 10). There is no need whatsoever to be distracted from full attention to him in the rumored resumption of the earthly temple and animal sacrifices. If such obscenities are resumed in Jerusalem and He does return at this time, it will be to take vengeance upon those unbelievers and their supporters who have defiled the truth with blasphemies. Those who are giving a clear witness for Jesus today will shine forth as the sun in the new Jerusalem, the beloved holy city (Rev. 20:9, 21:2) of our God, where they will live with him forevermore.

Such blessed ones are not unbelievers who cling still to the earthly city where He was crucified by those who would not accept his rule, but they are the ones who have followed him all along the higher pathway of his new covenant that leads them directly into the most blessed place where they can draw very close to him, even today. Their faith in him alone has rewarded them with his richest blessings.

Follow this higher pathway today. It will take you into his beautiful city where there is no disappointment!

Fisher Price Precious Planet Jumperoo Review

,
LEARNING WITH ANIMATION:

New baby toys come out in stores daily, so how do you know which toys will get the most playtime? Well, you can rely on reviews and here is my Fisher Price Precious Planet Jumperoo review. No one wants to spend their hard earned money on a toy that sits in the corner I assure you this is a keeper.

The Precious Planet Jumperoo is a unique toy disguised as fun but really is an educational toy wrapped around a lot of cuteness.

What the Precious Planet Jumperoo does so well is keep your baby entertained with music, lights, and animals. The soft padded swivel seat turns 360 degrees so your infant can see and play with all sorts of different textures.

Three features make the Precious Planet Jumperoo absolutely awesome. Those features are helping your baby develop strong muscles in their legs by bouncing. To help learn cause and effect by pulling, pushing, and grasping at objects. And lastly, the Jumperoo is so easy to put together.

Strong muscles are needed when babies start to crawl, stand up, and walk all by themselves, and the jumping action helps to develop those muscles.

When your infant reaches their hand for a toy and it makes a noise or lights up they get an instant reward. Babies' motor skills develop when they grasp at a toy and learn how to pick up items with their fingers. Right now it might be a huge toy but soon it will be small pieces of food they place in their mouth on purpose.

The Planet Jumperoo is so easy to setup and does not need a traditional doorway like the old-fashioned baby jumpers did. The sturdy freestanding base is all you need and you can move it from room to room while you continue with your daily routine.

The only downside to the Fisher Price Precious Planet Jumperoo is that babies can only use it until they are 25 pounds or can climb out of the seat. Since the toy is such a delight to observe your baby play in you will be sad when it is time to give it up. Good news you can always have another baby!

Overall the Precious Planet Jumperoo is a wonderful toy, you will love watching your baby discover animal sounds, and see the amazement on their faces when the toys light up and they can make noise by touching it with their fingers.

This truly in my opinion is an amazing toy and I am glad I bought one; I hope you feel the same way as well.
